Pip pip cheerio! Did everyone enjoy the Royal Wedding? Or did you just care about letting everyone know how much you don’t care? (Do you want a cookie or something?) Months back, I was like, “Eh, whatever.” But then I realized just how fun and exciting it was gonna be, and I was all for it. In the words of @ecctv, it is just fun, dang. Plus, pop culture and fashion? I had to see it live!
Which is why, after too-short disco naps, Katy and I got up waaaaay too early Friday morning to get ready for my friend Roxanne’s Royal Wedding party.
These photos are some of the most crap-quality ever, but it’s dark out, and did I mention waaaaay too early to be awake?
I saw this guy on the red line this morning and knew immediately I HAD to feature him in I-Spy. I was positively in love with his get-up from the get-go.
Even with my love of prints & patterns, I probably never would have thought to pair a multicolored argyle sweater with a soft, paisley-ish floral collared shirt. But I think it 100% works and is so eye-catching. If he were straight, I’d totally date a guy who dresses like this. Who doesn’t love a risk-taker?
I’m sort of crossing my fingers that fall is now officially here to stay, as that was another reason I think I’ve been off my blogging game lately (not dressing appropriately for the weather) and haven’t posted much, but here’s another simple, layered look.
Since layering this Merona dress to act as a skirt worked well the first time (what is that hair? oh right, the result of being impulsive), I tried it again. Honestly, I think I like it better as a skirt than as a dress.
Still adjusting to the new hair – I’m not 100% sold on it – and tried quite a few options over this dress this morning, but ultimately I settled on some autumn-approved corduroy.
Jacket: Ann Taylor Loft (size 6).
I feel like half my entries are about the unpredictable Midwest weather, but since it affects what you wear, it’s a necessary evil. Lately Chicago has gone from warm & summery to cold, back and forth all week. It’s not really anything out of the ordinary – fairly typical for the autumn transition, in fact – but sometimes I feel like I just can’t seem to get it right!
Anyway, today’s another rainy one – the sound of raindrops was so nice to wake up to… and, let’s face it, roll over and sleep a couple more hours. But now I’m up and off to meet friends for Easy A.
I’m trying to show you my rainboots (and failing). Top: Mossimo boyfriend tee (size S) from Target, jeans: Calvin Klein (size 10), hat: Target.
Yesterday I experienced a little bit of “fashion karma,” so to speak. Or something of the sort. I’m not 100% sure on what to call it yet, but what I’m referring to is the phenomenon of finding something you really like and walking away from it, only to have it worm its tempting little self back into your life. Let me explain.
A while back, I saw Noche En La Copa dress by Edme & Esyllte at Anthropologie – on sale for $69.99, down from $138. I tried it on because I liked the colors and silhouette, and though it fit, I couldn’t justify the price.
When my friend Kari wanted to stop in Anthro yesterday, I glanced around the sale racks as usual and spotted one single Noche En La Copa dress left. In a size 8 – the size I had tried on. And it was marked down to $29.99. That, my friends, is fashion karma: being rewarded for sensibility and patience with an irresistible low-low price later on!
For $30, I think this is totally adorable, no?
After making at least 3 trips to Gap to find enough stuff worthy of spending my 50%-off Groupon on, last night I hit the gold mine. Or the navy mine, as it were.
This felt like it came together really effortlessly, much more so than yesterday.
