Hi! We actually had some sunshine this morning! Which made me start to break a sweat taking these pics, no lie. But was it nice and toasty warm outside, too? Noooo, of course not!
Oh well! Happy with this, which has quickly become one of my new favorite outfits – and it seriously cost $36.
Why yes, it’s a random post to this neglected little blog!
Last night I met up with my friends Sarah and Amelia (in town from Boston), and it was just SO good to see them. It really made me wish I had more girlfriends in the city. We talk and laugh and get along so easily. Nothing is off limits. I miss them so much. And, as we all said, it’s truly amusing to think that the three of us – once living in a dorm, eating Cheez-Its and watching Days of Our Lives together almost every afternoon – would end up such fabulous city girls 7 years later.
I tried to dress the part of fab city girl anyway!
With the craziness of the holidays, I haven’t been around much again – oops! Bad blogger! Hope everyone had a lovely time with friends and family. I sure did.
Here I am on the porch with our second Christmas tree (there were 3 in the house), wearing a beautiful ecru (basically white) sweater from White House Black Market (which doesn’t seem to photograph as lovely as it really is), Target jeggings, and Bandolino leather boots.
Today’s outfit is nothing special – sweater from American Eagle, Mossimo jeggings *shudder* from Target – but today’s post is not about the clothes. No, today’s post is about the shoes.
Oh, hello! It’s been a while. Truth be told, I’ve simply been getting lazy and the dreaded C-word – no, not that, gutter-brains – comfortable. In any case, I’m back (for the moment) with what I wore to a really fun fall excursion this weekend. More than a dozen friends and I went to Richardson Farm in Spring Grove, IL, home of the world’s largest corn maze! We had spectacularly lovely, sunny weather during the afternoon but knew it’d cool off significantly once the sun went down, so it was all about layers.
Wore a cami under this Merona Ultimate Long-Sleeve Tee (in Mint Air) for extra warmth and paired it with a plaid vest by Heritage 1981 I’d never heard of this brand before, which is apparently made by Forever 21, but I got it at Crossroads in Evanston for $17. I’d been searching for the perfect vest for a very long time, and I really loved the fit, comfort, look, and style of this one (it also has a faux fur-lined hood, which I took off this weekend in favor of a hat).
“They don’t even know what it is to be a fan, y’know? To truly love some silly little piece of music, or some band, so much that it hurts.”
Ten years ago this week, one of my favorite movies of all time (definitely in my Top 3) was released: Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. If you love music, you must see this film. Even if you’re not into the ’70s. Even if you don’t like Kate Hudson – she was born for this role. And if you can get your hands on it, make sure to watch the bootleg cut, aka the director’s cut, aka “Untitled.” I didn’t think the movie could get more perfect, but the director’s cut proved me wrong.
I feel like I should say something profound about how much this movie speaks to me, about how many relationships I’ve had blossom around a mutual love we shared for it, about the power of music, but I’d never do it justice. It makes you smile while breaking your heart and then puts you back together again. But this line sums up part of why I relate to it so much:
“The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you’re uncool.”
Ain’t that the truth?
In honor of the 10th anniversary of Almost Famous, here’s me as Penny Lane for Halloween 2007.
Green coat: Target (I think Merona? I’ve since gotten rid of it, as it was actually too big), flowy top: thrifted, jeans: Mossimo, shades: eBay. I think my tacklebox was also from Target, but I can’t remember.
“We are not groupies. Groupies sleep with rockstars because they wanna be near someone famous. We’re here because of the music. We inspire the music. We are band aids.”
Hope everyone’s having a good weekend… it’s all happening!
I feel like half my entries are about the unpredictable Midwest weather, but since it affects what you wear, it’s a necessary evil. Lately Chicago has gone from warm & summery to cold, back and forth all week. It’s not really anything out of the ordinary – fairly typical for the autumn transition, in fact – but sometimes I feel like I just can’t seem to get it right!
Anyway, today’s another rainy one – the sound of raindrops was so nice to wake up to… and, let’s face it, roll over and sleep a couple more hours. But now I’m up and off to meet friends for Easy A.
I’m trying to show you my rainboots (and failing). Top: Mossimo boyfriend tee (size S) from Target, jeans: Calvin Klein (size 10), hat: Target.
