coupla cool greys

Happy Seis de Mayo!

What? That’s not a thing? Well then.

Just thought I would share a couple of cute new (and semi-new) purchases, both of which happen to be grey.

First up: today I am wearing my beloved Euro-retro dress (from this post), which is positively perfect for picnicking – but I wore a different belt with it.

Elastic grey belt with faux leather bow: H&M (size S), like $6 – I think I like it better than the black belt. Or is it too twee? What do you think?

seeing red

In response to my last post (the results are pretty evenly spread out right now, so please go vote!), a few people got talking about colorful, hot heels – and Divadoll21285 and I discussed red shoes in particular. As I told her, for a while I became obsessed with the idea of red shoes, I think back in college. I didn’t have any, and it was my quest to get some. They are just bright and bold and strangely empowering. They add kick to any outfit and are, let’s face it, rather sexy.

I now own 4 pairs. Ahem.

But, like she said, you need different types of red heels for different occasions. It’s important! With that, I present you my red shoe collection…

lite rock @ the office

First off, apologies for the drastic differences in photos today – some are grainy, some bright – but it was difficult to quickly figure out settings this morning thanks to the thunderstorm. April showers, anyone?

I feel like this is kind of… rocker lite @ the office. It’s still put together with very simple basics, but each extra element has just a little bit of kick to it.

The basics:
Brown top: Gap Favorite V-neck tee (size S – love these, and they’re on sale online right now), jeans: Old Navy ‘Flirt‘ fit (it’s a nice mid-rise) bootcut, I believe.

picnic pretty

I’ve got a forecast of 74 & sunny and, with that, picnic plans with friends downtown at Millennium Park after work – already counting down the hours, let me tell you! Our menu is “vaguely fancy European.” Jealous?

All that considered, I mixed brights & neutrals with fun details for today:

Oops! Fanhead! And I cut off the shoes. Don’t worry, they’re below, as usual. Scallop-edged brown skirt with gold emboirdery & beading: Ann Taylor Loft (size 12), turquoise cardigan: Mossimo (size S).

green stems on a rainy day

While it was a wondrous 60 & sunny yesterday, that proved to be merely a tease, as today we’re back to dreary & rainy. But I’ll still shine!

Sorry my lighting is so funky. This is a bit of a spin on my Obama-inspired look that many people seemed to like and compliment. I definitely dig the belted look, can’t lie. Purple dress with braided neckline detail: Four Stars (size L) from TJ Maxx, sequined oatmeal cardigan: Express, green tights: Simply Vera.

win $250 from express!

My mom just forwarded me info today on this contest from Express, so I thought I’d pass the info along. I’ve already entered & submitted reviews for a couple things, and anyone else who shops there should definitely do so too! You have to create an account, but that’s it. Bonus entries for uploading a photo, which I’ve always thought should be an option for online reviews, so I’m happy to see Express using it – even if they have to bribe us with prizes to get people to do it!

Enter here! Contest ends January 11.

I also may have found an ideal skinny belt there this weekend, due to a heads up from my friend Jenny (on SALE, too) – thanks, girl!

I LOVE the fft-ffft of corduroy!

fft-ffft, originally uploaded by hereslookingatshoeskid.

Nothing special today – just casual & comfy (and warm! I was too cold yesterday in that silk) in a sweater, Steve Madden brown leather boots, and cords for my half day at the office. Thought it was worth posting, though, as these are the greatest cords I’ve tried on, and I’ve looked and longed for a perfect-fitting pair – especially the great colors J. Crew always has – for a good while. But J. Crew these are not.
