lite rock @ the office

First off, apologies for the drastic differences in photos today – some are grainy, some bright – but it was difficult to quickly figure out settings this morning thanks to the thunderstorm. April showers, anyone?

I feel like this is kind of… rocker lite @ the office. It’s still put together with very simple basics, but each extra element has just a little bit of kick to it.

The basics:
Brown top: Gap Favorite V-neck tee (size S – love these, and they’re on sale online right now), jeans: Old Navy ‘Flirt‘ fit (it’s a nice mid-rise) bootcut, I believe.

The extras:

Scarf: well… Miley Cyrus & Max Azria strike again! I’m always so afraid to admit this to the entire internet, but guess what: this scarf is totally cute and was only $5.00, so there! I mean, Miley Cyrus, daughter of “Achy-Breaky,” mullet-sporting Billy, & her Disney brethren are about the furthest thing from “rock,” but I simply can’t deny the sass of this scarf – I love the contrast of the slate grey against the red-orange ombré leopard print – and neither can you! To add some sparkle, my fave “disco-ball” pendant from American Eagle.

I like how the cutouts in these wooden earrings from New York & Company sort of mirror the leopard print.

Multi-chain bracelet: H&M – the pearls are a little bit sweet, the rhinestones a little bit sophisticated, and the chains a little bit rock.

My snowbird grandma recently flew back from Arizona for the season and was almost giddy with news of a .50 bag of jewelry she scored at a rummage sale – with good reason! She found a lot of great stuff and kindly bestowed 3 pieces on me, including this silver & amber ring.

Curve detail on one side.

Leaf detail on the other. I love everything about this: that it’s old, it’s pleasantly worn, it’s an unusual stone, it catches the light so many different ways, it’s got different details yet still seems balanced.

Plus, I just really love Jurassic Park (no lie, 100% serious), so it’s extra cool! Paging Dr. Malcom… *ahem*

Black, leather, studded flats: Nine West – once again, we’ve got a really simple item embellished with a little oomph, here in the form of studs in a variety of sizes and colors that give both texture and shine.

Hope everyone’s having a swell Tuesday. Let’s go make it a party in the U.S.A.
